O2 problems hit users for a second day

O2 users are facing a second day of problems, with network problems affecting thousands of users.

O2 have said that its 2G network has been restored, allowing customers to make and receive calls.

However engineers are still working on the 3G network.

The problems began on Wednesday lunchtime, in a statement O2 said, “We can confirm that our 2G network service has now been restored. Customers who were affected should now be able to make and receive calls. Our 3G service is starting to restore and customers should expect to see a gradual return of data services as the day progresses.”

Affected customers are being advised to switch off and on their phones.

O2 have released few details about the cause of the outage.

“We can confirm that the problem with our mobile service is due to a fault with one of our network systems, which has meant some mobile phone numbers are not registering correctly on our network,” said the firm.

Also being affected are GiffGaff and Tesco Mobile, both of which use O2 masts.
